Rebecca Kern-Lunbery, MS, PAS, MBA
I am a member of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists and have eight years of experience consulting with livestock producers for a commercial laboratory. My academic background includes a Master’s degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of Wyoming, where I collaborated on a project with the US Meat Animal Research Center focusing on beef feed efficiency. Following the completion of my master’s program, I worked at USMARC for two years as a research technician. My research work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Animal Genetics, Gene, and Livestock Science. Additionally, I have served as the President of the NIRS Forage and Feed Testing Consortium.
Driven by a passion for producer outreach and education, I regularly present at producer meetings, collaborate with state extensions, and facilitate educational webinars. I am also a frequent contributor to Progressive Forage.
In my experience consulting with producers on forage analysis and supplementation plans, I identified a need for more accessible and consolidated resources for producers. Specifically something to help with supplementation plans as most of the tools out there are for total mixed rations. There is a need for tools to help producers who do not have mixing capabilities, and those with a grazing base. While these tools cannot replace the expertise of trusted advisors such as nutritionists, extension agents, or veterinarians, I aspire to create straightforward tools to support producers and complement existing resources.
Furthermore, I hope that these tools will assist producers in efficiently utilizing and managing their feed resources, ultimately leading to improved animal health, production, and greater financial viability.
